Vince Aletti, Contributor to Photograph Magazine and The New Yorker chose Michal Chelbin’s photograph of young boys in prison as one of his top picks for AIPAD 2012!


Michal Chelbin, the Israeli photographer whose previous projects have involved young acrobats and other performers, brings a sense of theater to her pictures of inmates in Russian juvenile prisons, the subject of her next show at Andrea Meislin. The faces of the six boys in Young Prisoners (including one who looks like he’s just been in a bloody fight) are masklike and heartbreaking. — Vince Aletti
